Companies evaluating collaboration to deploy AEM electrolysis for large-scale commercial projects
COLUMBUS, Ohio - November 4th, 2026 - Power to Hydrogen (P2H2) and Japan-based Asahi Kasei, a diversified global company, and have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to evaluate manufacturing scale-up and commercialization of water electrolysis systems utilizing anion exchange membrane (AEM) technology to produce clean hydrogen.
AEM electrolysis offers a promising approach to clean hydrogen production, with the potential to use lower-cost materials and operate flexibly alongside renewable energy sources. As the hydrogen market develops, these characteristics can help address evolving industry needs and reduce the levelized cost of hydrogen.
The MOU provides a framework for evaluating potential areas of further collaboration to deploy AEM electrolysis at industrial-scale. The companies will consider how P2H2’s AEM technology and Asahi Kasei’s experience across its electrolysis businesses could support the technology’s continued development and future applications.
Through the collaboration, P2H2 and Asahi Kasei intend to assess opportunities to bring together their complementary capabilities. The scope and direction of any future activities will be informed by ongoing technical work and further discussions between the companies.
For P2H2, the MOU represents a further step in exploring pathways to scale its AEM electrolysis technology as quickly as possible for 100MW+ projects. For Asahi Kasei, the collaboration supports its ongoing evaluation of next-generation electrolysis technologies as part of its broader hydrogen-related activities.
